About the CPLEE

Effective July 1, 2015, all psychologists seeking licensure in California must successfully pass the California Psychology Law and Ethics Examination (CPLEE).

The CPLEE is developed by the California Board of Psychology through the Office of Professional Examination Service of the Department of Consumer Affairs. The CPLEE is computer administered at PSI examination centers.

The CPLEE consists of 100 multiple-choice questions, with 75 scored items and 25 pilot items (unscored). The form of the CPLEE changes four times a year on January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1. The CPLEE encompasses the laws, regulations, and ethical requirements for California psychologists. Examinees have 2.5 hours to complete the CPLEE.

Candidates who do not pass the CPLEE must wait until the next form becomes available before being eligible to re-test. For more information about the CPLEE see the California Board of Psychology CPLEE Candidate Examination Bulletin.

PSYCHPREP’s CPLEE program consists of a study volume, audio mp3s, PowerPoint packet and over 300 unique legal/ethical test questions online. PSYCHPREP will help you pass the CPLEE the first time you take it!
